山形県・置賜地方に受け継がれる「米琉（よねりゅう）」は、米沢琉球紬とも呼ばれる伝統ある織物です。

その名は、琉球絞を思わせる美しい絞模様と風合いに由来し、江戸時代末期から明治時代にかけて多くの人々に親しまれてきました。上杉鷹山公が殖産興業として織物産業を奨励したことにより、山形県の置賜地方では紬織が大きく発展し、現在まで受け継がれています。

About Yone-Ryu Weaving

Yone-Ryu is a traditional textile woven in the Okitama region of Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. Also known as Yonezawa Ryukyu Tsumugi, it is admired for its distinctive kasuri patterns and refined texture inspired by the textiles of the Ryukyu Islands.

Its history dates back to the Edo period, when Lord Uesugi Yozan encouraged the development of the local weaving industry as part of his regional revitalization efforts. Since then, generations of artisans have preserved and refined the craft, creating textiles that embody both practicality and quiet elegance.

The beauty of Yone-Ryu lies in its subtle texture and understated sophistication. Its gently irregular surface reflects the warmth of handcraftsmanship, while the fabric gradually softens and becomes even more comfortable with every wear.
